Why gaming sites ask for your ID: anti-money-laundering rules explained

The law

Republic Act No. 10927, signed in July 2017, made casinos — explicitly including internet-based and ship-based casinos — “covered persons” under the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2001. Covered persons must identify their customers, keep records and report certain transactions to the Anti-Money Laundering Council.

The ₱5 million reporting threshold

For casinos, a single cash transaction above ₱5,000,000 is a “covered transaction” that must be reported. Suspicious transactions must be reported regardless of amount.

What it means for you

Identity checks (KYC) are a legal requirement, not a delaying tactic. Complete verification early, use accounts in your own name, and keep the same payment method for deposits and withdrawals — mismatches are a common reason withdrawals are held. Our withdrawal tests note when KYC was requested.

FAQs

Is it normal to be asked for a selfie before withdrawing?

Yes. Licensed operators must verify identity; a selfie or video check is a common part of that process.
